The new Scottish hotel where you can buy everything in your room

When Annabelle Holland and her husband, investment banker Anthony Everard, started dreaming of launching their own furniture business during lockdown, one thing was certain — they didn’t want a shop.

Annabelle had always gained clients through word of mouth — people saw her beautifully designed country homes and asked her to work her magic on theirs. So instead of opening a store, the couple decided to build a fully immersive experience: a hotel where every chair, light, and napkin is not only carefully curated but also available to purchase.

Enter Anbôise, their interiors brand — and now, the newly revamped Fortingall Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland, where the entire property is furnished with Anbôise products.

A Hotel That Doubles as a Showroom

The couple fell in love with the idea after a friend mentioned the historic Fortingall Hotel was up for sale in 2024. Nestled at the foot of Glen Lyon and near the ancient Fortingall Yew (believed to be over 3,000 years old), the hotel is part of the South Chesthill estate. It was the perfect blank slate.

“We always believed the best way to sell home products was to let people live with them first,” Annabelle says. “And the hotel gave us just that.”

Renovation was no small task. Between November 2024 and April 2025, they worked with local builders to completely gut the space. Out went the dark red interiors, worn plumbing, and noisy old macerator toilets. In came warm apricot velvets, moss-green headboards, modern ceramic lamps, antique tables, and smart brass fixtures — nearly all designed or selected by the Anbôise team.

The transformation of the 1891 Arts and Crafts building is stunning. The formerly heavy, traditional décor has been replaced with a fresh take on modern country elegance. Every room now offers not only comfort and charm but also a chance to shop the look.

Guests can purchase anything from velvet headboards (£1,200), ceramic lamps (£210), and glass vases (£28) to bespoke linen benches (£2,530). Prices are displayed discreetly via the in-room TV, and QR codes make buying seamless — no awkward catalogues over dinner.

Not Just for Interiors Enthusiasts

Even if you’re not looking to redecorate, there’s still plenty to enjoy. The hotel now boasts a new high-end restaurant team serving Scottish-sourced dishes using ingredients from the estate and surrounding area. The food is as carefully curated as the rooms.

And outside, guests can explore one of Scotland’s most beautiful glens. With fly-fishing along a private six-mile river stretch, hikes through Glen Lyon, and cozy nights by the fire, it’s an experience that blends style and soul.

Big Plans Ahead

Though the couple now lives in Sotogrande, Spain, they continue to run the business remotely, with ambitious plans for Anbôise. Next up? Their own fabric and wallpaper lines, more homeware products (think marble bookends, hand-painted pottery, and rattan lamps), and — maybe — more hotels.

While not every product is made in Britain, much of the furniture is — something Annabelle says became important during Covid delays. “We’d love to source everything in the UK,” she says. “But we also want to find beautiful, well-made things wherever we can.”

A Stylish Escape with a Side of Shopping

Whether you’re planning to redecorate your home or just craving a luxurious escape, the Fortingall Hotel offers more than just a weekend away. It’s a place where design meets experience — and everything around you can go home with you.

Forget showrooms and catalogues. This is how shopping for your dream home should feel.
