Jenna Ortega Admits to Feeling ‘Very Lost’ When She Began Movie with The Weeknd: ‘Strange Time in My Life’

Recently, Jenna Ortega (22), shared that filming her latest movie, Hurry Up Tomorrow, came when she was going through difficult times in her life. At the movie premiere in New York on May 13, she told PEOPLE she was feeling lost when she started filming this movie. The movie also stars The Weeknd and Barry Keoghan, and was very personal to her.

“It was a strange time for me,” Jenna said. “But working on this movie felt very in tune with how I was feeling.”

The Weeknd plays a musician who is suffering from insomnia and is on a deep, emotional journey. This movie is also connected to his new album with the same name. Jenna not only stars in the movie, but she also helped in producing it.

Jenna said working with The Weeknd on this movie made her feel understood and supported. “I felt seen, which was really comforting,” she said.

The movie director, Trey Edward Shults, also praised Jenna’s performance in the movie. “She blew me away,” he said. “I don’t think she’s ever done something like this before. I’m really proud of her.”

Earlier in an interview with The Weeknd for V Magazine, Jenna opened up about how she struggled with the sudden fame after the success of Netflix’s Wednesday. She said she missed the early days of her career when everything felt simpler and there was not much pressure.

“I’m grateful for everything, but I really liked the hustle and struggle at the beginning,” she shared.
